When comparing weight using metric units, there are 3 common units to compare: milligrams (mg), grams (g), and kilograms (kg).

1 gram (g) = 1,000 milligrams (mg)
If we have a weight in kilograms and we want to know how many grams it is, we multiply the number of kilograms by 1,000.
